Rare JAVs: 8 Titles That Take Japanese Fantasy to the Absurd
A group of art students find a pen capable of turning people into objects, and they use it to transform a companion into a mannequin, a piece of furniture, and later a urinal. That’s the premise of RCTD-408, and it’s not a nightmare: it’s one of the titles that best summarizes how far the ingenuity of Japanese adult cinema can go.
If you associate the JAV With idols, sofas and close-ups, this list will throw you off. Because along with the more conventional catalog there is a vein of productions that bet on impossible premises: alternative worlds, anime parodies, animated objects and fetishes that seem to be taken from a feverish dream. Rare JAVs, and they have a larger audience than it seems.
There is no order of quality or a serious hierarchy here. There are eight titles that, for one reason or another, stay in the head. Some work as a comedy, others as an exercise in fantasy and a few as simple curiosity. They all share something: they are rare JAVs that are difficult to forget.

What is a rare JAV (and why it exists so much)
Before getting into the matter, it is convenient to clarify the term. JAV are the acronyms of Japanese Adult Video, adult cinema produced in Japan. Within this huge industry, several models coexist: films starring a well-known actress, studio productions and so-called kikaku AV or “concept AV”, where the premise rules over the cast.
That’s where the weird titles appear. A kikaku AV It can be built on a single idea — “What if people could pay with the body?” — and develop an entire universe around it. The low cost of some productions and the culture of parody also help: in Japan, manga, anime and variety shows are constant material for winks, tributes and mockery.
The result is not always erotic in the traditional sense. Sometimes it is absurd, sometimes it is uncomfortable and sometimes it is directly a comedy. That is why many of these titles are enjoyed more as a curiosity than as material for something else. And that’s right: the JAV is also a territory of experimentation.
The 8 rare JAVs that deserve a chance
1. Nichijou Seikatsu ni Aru Watashitachi no Ochinchin Pet (SDDE-556)

Study: SOD Create (SENZ seal) · Year: 2018 · Duration: about 98 minutes
There is a scene in art class in which the students paint their pet. The mascot is a penis. There is no irony or wink: in the world of Nichijou Seikatsu ni Aru Watashitachi no Ochinchin Pet, penises are pets and girls take care of them as naturally as they brush their hair. They take them to school, pet them and reward them when they behave well.
The story follows one of those caregivers and her pet, “Johnny.” All goes well until Johnny runs away, and what seemed like a situation comedy turns into a little adventure of search and reunion. There is friendship, there are class scenes and there is a strange tender tone that, seen from a distance, is almost endearing.
It’s one of the clearest examples of how a weird JAV can be fun without giving up production. The makeup, effects, and naturalness with which the actresses take on the premise make the joke work. It’s not a masterpiece, but it has more heart than its title suggests.
2. Amazons (SDDE-628)

Study: SOD Create · Year: 2020 · Cast: Mishima Natsuko, Yuzuki Aisha, Emily (Sakuraba Hikari), Shimotsuki Runa, Kato Rei
B-movie adventure films owe a debt to lost tribes, reckless explorers, and impossible rituals. Amazons A television crew arrives in a remote area and ends up captured by a tribe of women who don’t speak Japanese, except for the shaman. The rest communicate in a made-up language that sounds like a mixture of dialect and spell.
The premise is pure explorers’ cinema: costumes, body paintings, a ceremony to extract the semen of the prisoners and an escape attempt that goes wrong. What’s interesting is that the title takes its own mythology seriously. The performances, the production design and that invented language build an atmosphere that goes beyond the costume.
It’s a fantasy of domination and exoticism, with all the warnings that this implies, but also a sample of how the JAV can appropriate the codes of adventure cinema. If you like productions with a setting and a choral cast, it is one of the most ambitious titles on the list. If you are looking for something realistic, it is better to move on to the next one.
3. Shuukan “Kanojo” Soukan (SDDE-464)

Study: SOD Create (SENZ seal) · Year: 2020 · Cast: Hiiragi Nana (also known as Hayama Miku)
The idea is so simple that it is scary: a collection by instalments, but instead of a fascicle with parts from a watch, you get a piece of a woman. The protagonist buys the magazine SODNI and he receives body parts from a girl who must assemble number by number. First the torso, then the breasts, and so on until completing a figure that at first has no face or limbs.
The title takes the fetishism of construction to a point that borders on body horror. There is something of Frankenstein in the premise, but also of domestic comedy: the protagonist lives with the pieces, places them and fits them together until the body begins to move. When it is finally complete, he discovers that he can take it apart to play in new ways.
The production is supported by a very convincing prosthetic work and a deliberately physical mise-en-scène. It is one of the titles that generate the most division: some see it as a low-budget genius and others as a rarity that is difficult to digest. In any case, it is impossible to deny that it has an idea of its own.
4. Mousou Item Kyuukyoku Shinka Series: Ningen o Mono ni Kaeru Mahou no Fudepen (RCTD-408)

Study: ROCKET · Year: 2021 · Cast: Toyonaka Alice
A pen. That’s it. The protagonist finds him at the art club and discovers that what he draws becomes reality. Instead of using it to pass the semester, he uses it to transform a classmate into a mannequin, a chair and, at the climax, into a human urinal. The film is a black comedy with a very specific fetishistic component: literal objectification.
Toyonaka Alice, a specialist in immobility, holds impossible poses and turns her character into an object that is still alive. The grace is not only in the transformation, but in the reaction of the group: the friends accept the premise with a naturalness that is as absurd as it is disturbing. In addition, the character has a boyfriend, so there is a slight NTR component that adds another layer of discomfort.
It’s one of the titles that best exemplifies the blurred line between humor and fetish. If you like premises taken to the extreme, you’ll probably enjoy it. If the idea of a human turned into furniture seems unpleasant to you, it’s not your movie.
5. Sakura Kizuna: Chikotsu-chan ni Shikorareru! (MKMP-284)

Study: KM Produce · Year: 2019 · Cast: Sakura Kizuna
The title is a tongue twister that only makes sense in Japanese. Chikotsu-chan ni Shikorareru sounds like “to be reprimanded by Chikotsu-chan”, but it also contains the verb shikoruThe reference is a popular NHK variety show in which a pet asks adults about general knowledge, where the pet becomes a sex presenter.
The result is a hybrid between TV show and adult film. Sakura Kizuna plays Chikotsu-chan and leads a series of sections on sex education: questions, answers and demonstrations in the studio. There is sex, yes, but the wrapping is that of a Variety Show with set aesthetics, colorful decorations and a constant joke tone.
It’s the lightest title on the list and probably the easiest to watch without preparation. It works as a comedy, as a curiosity, and as an example of the extent to which Japanese television is part of the JAV’s imaginary. If you’ve ever watched a pet quiz show and thought “this needs an adult version”, someone did it before you.
6. Doc and Door demo (HUNTB-151)

Study: Hunter · Year: 2021 · Cast: Tenma Yui, Aoi Rena, Tsubaki Rika, Hiiragi Marina, Izumi Rion
We’ve all wanted to open a door and disappear. The difference is that here the door exists. The protagonist ends up taking over an abandoned door and discovers that he can take it anywhere just by opening it. He uses it to appear in the bathroom of the girl he likes, and the scene of the cry of surprise is inevitable.
The title is divided into several chapters with different protagonists. The first is the closest to parody, with character names that are obvious nods to Doraemon’s most famous magic door. The next ones explore variations: the door as a tool of voyeurism, as an excuse for sexual encounter and as a generator of absurd situations.
It’s a simple, but effective production. Tenma Yui is especially good in the first segment, and the mix of comedy and eroticism works better than the premise suggests. If you grew up with nineties anime, there’s a guaranteed guilty pleasure.
7. Kounai Insuku Gram (In School Gram) (HUNTB-142)

Study: Hunter · Year: 2021 · Cast: Ruru-chan, Maeno Nana, among others
Instagram, but in a school and without moderation. In School Gram, an internal social network where students compete to post the most provocative photos and videos. The one who gets the most interaction becomes the “queen” of the school. The prize is symbolic; the spectacle is not.
The film laughs at image culture and digital exhibitionism without abandoning eroticism. The participants start with light posts and raise their tone as they see what others upload. Social pressure, likes and competition become the engine of the plot, and the entire school ends up being dragged along by the dynamics.
It has a touch of satire that makes it more interesting than average, although the development ends up weighing more on the sex than on the criticism. Even so, the concept is original and the choral cast works. It is one of the titles that age best in the age of social networks, although its portrait of the school is anything but realistic.
8. Mirai no Mousou Sekai Series: Josei ga Okane o Motanai BODYPAY (RCTD-481)

Study: ROCKET · Year: 2022 · Cast: Arimura Nozomi, Yuina Mitsuki, Horiuchi Mika
Imagine that your face is worth money. Literally. In the future of BODYPAY, women don’t carry cash: they pay with their bodies. The app takes a photo, calculates an appraisal and offers them a series of sexual “packages” to cover the amount. There are birthdays that lower the valuation, installment payments and a payment interface so detailed it seems real.
The premise is a satire of the digital economy and the obsession with turning everything into a transaction. The title takes the time to explain its system, with graphics, receipts and internal rules. That world-building is what elevates it above average: it is not just an excuse for sex, it is a small dystopia with a sense of humor.
Sex scenes are more conventional than wrapping, so it works well as a bridge between rare JAV and traditional JAV. If you’re interested in dystopian science fiction, it’s the title of the list that will speak to you the most. And if you’ve ever thought that paying with your mobile phone was the last step in dehumanization, wait until you see BODYPAY.
The pleasure of the unclassifiable
The rare JAV is not a genre in itself, but an attitude: that of taking an idea to the end even if the result is unclassifiable. Sometimes a comedy, sometimes a nightmare and sometimes a play that you don’t quite know how to describe, but it almost never leaves you indifferent.
If you had to start with one, Sakura Kizuna: Chikotsu-chan ni Shikorareru! It’s the friendliest gateway. If you want something more ambitious, Mirai no Mousou Sekai Series: Josei ga Okane o Motanai BODYPAY And if you just want to understand what we’re talking about when we say “weird JAV,” Nichijou Seikatsu ni Aru Watashitachi no Ochinchin Pet it is the definitive proof.
In the end, these titles are a reminder that Japanese adult cinema is much broader than its clichés. And that, sometimes, the best way to surprise audiences is to do something that no one expected.
