Review: The Humbling of a Holy Maiden

The Humbling of a Holy Maiden is a Visual Novel Developed by LoveLab which takes place just when the Demon King has been destroyed. Although one would think that our holy maiden would be relieved that the villain who terrified her city was defeated, it is quite the opposite. She seems worried about her people and, in private, her faith in God is shaken.

His job as a princess is to govern his people with the strength of God. The deficiencies of our maiden will become more evident without an ever-present malignant force to scare the population. Ashamed for her luxuries, our princess now wishes more than ever to experience life as a commoner.

The maiden has only one confidant in these terrifying truths, her dirty gardener, our protagonist, who enjoys talking about the wealth of the soil and some supernatural knowledge of her past life. After discussing theocracy and taxes through tithing, our protagonist and Holy Maiden came to a similar conclusion. Perhaps romance is a more powerful force than God. Both the maiden and our protagonist decide that if she understands what her people have gone through, she will also have to experience it.

As a visual novel, there are no options, since it is a kinetic story. The key art is quite striking and the backgrounds are admirable and diffuse during conversations to showcase the characters while they talk. I found the art and design of splendid characters. The purple-haired maiden was adorable and had a wide variety of facial expressions that cheered her on during each scene. I found that the most unique aspect is how it creates its own sound effects for all the non-sexual things it does. Although the music is appropriate, it can get a bit repetitive.

Needless to say, this game is for adults only and there is no mosaic censorship. You are a teacher of the young maiden, a senpai if you want, and with all your supernatural knowledge, she hopes you can show her a world she doesn’t know. Most of the focus is on submission and humiliation.

The maiden believes that she must understand her people and provoke a revolution, and she enjoys it too. However, we quickly realize that our protagonist is a bit strange. The Maiden grows as a character as romance themes emerge. She is the most interesting protagonist since she is hungry for new experiences and even preaches her sermons in the church with a revealing outfit. The protagonist on the other hand does not change at all.

I understand that in order to humiliate the maiden, the protagonist needs to have most of the power within the relationship, but he is a total idiot. There is little or no romance built between the two, and most of the excitement occurs during the Eroge scenes. Although this story is described as Nukige, there are some missed opportunities here, which makes me wonder why Isekai’s premise in the first place.

The Humbling of a Holy Maiden It is an explicit visual novel, niche and perverted principle Finally. While writing is somewhat bearable, it then erodes to fleshy adjectives and nouns. This becomes a pretty messy Nukige, where it’s hard to connect with the characters. Sure, it has a lot of different problems, but it mostly feels like you’re checking the boxes and then trying a natural flow for your narrative.
